Arts in Islam at the Louvre

A while back, I had a few hours to kill after the dentist before meeting up with a friend. So, I went to see the exhibition "Arts in Islam" at the Louvre.

It was an interesting visit, firstly because I was the only person there in the exhibition hall with a headscarf, maybe the only Muslim.
Secondly, because of the above facts, a guard decided to have me fill out a questionnaire on the exhibit and a woman near the Mediterrean exhibits asked me if I only came to the Louvre for the Islamic exhibit. She was shocked when I said that I had been to Louvre way too many times and that my favorite painting is the one of Napolean and the crowning.

I love mosaics and their detail. If I had my own house the walls would be covered in mosaics.

Louvre Visit 2

Last week, I had a chance to be a tour guide for some Turks from the Netherlands in Paris. Of course they wanted to visit everywhere in 2 days. But I made it clear it is not possible to see everywhere in Paris, there are places I haven't seen and I have lived here for 3+ years.
Funny story when we visited the Louvre, the girl I was showing around just turned 26 so she wasn't going to be able to get in for free. But we were going to try anyway, so we went to the entrance counter and the girl was like I don't have my passport I only have my student card from the Netherlands. So, the  worker was like sing me a French song. So there she was singing the French national anthemn at the entrance of the louvre ! Would you do this to get into a museum or a place for free ?

While there, I decided to take some photos of some other favorite things in the Louvre. Enjoy!

The Louvre is full of art, if you didn't know already. There is literally way too much to see in one day. It can take months or years depending on how long you stand and gaze at the many different styles of art work.

Here are a few statues that caught my eye last time I was there, so gaze away.

Funny story : One day when one of my American friends was visiting, we were sitting in the Jardin de Tuilleries. There were these older American women sitting next to us and one says to the other in a thick-Southern accent, "Come on let's go! I didn't come to Paris to sit around the Garden de Twilleries all day! Let's go to the Champs Elysees (american pronunciation!)."
